This is why the children of Trump voters are heartsick. We witness how people who should know better, do better, become co-opted by ugliness. We watch their faces twist with anger, their voices rise with indignation, their speech become accusatory or shot through with denial.
Where did the love go? The golden rule? Goodwill?
To even begin to return to our better selves, we must practice turning off our knee-jerk reactions. We must learn to step on the brakes instead of the accelerator. “Hitting the pause button” is a very difficult thing to learn how to do. But it is what every adult must learn to master.
We have reached a very precarious place as a nation, and as a people.
I pray that we will — individually and collectively — recognize how much we have lost, and how much more we stand to lose…unless and until We. Grow. The. F***. Up.
